This Pepper Beef with Rice was the first offering from AlpineAire that I tried. I held off on writing this review until I had reviewed some of the other meals from them.

It seems as if their packaging with the green bars on the front are vegetarian selections and those with the reddish brown bars are not. I like peppery beef so I selected this when ordering with the hopes that it might remind me of some of the pepper steak or jerky that I have enjoyed.

Looking down into the pouch after I removed the oxygen absorbing packet I could see the rice easily and some other little items that might be the beef. Now it’s time to add the boiling water, stir and wait.

The end result was a nice bowl of peppered rice with some small flecks of beef. It tasted just fine but wasn’t nearly as meaty as I had hoped. At it’s current price it’s cheaper than most of the other meals that I have reviewed but I suppose that makes sense as it’s mostly rice.

I bought two of these and I’ll like eating it a second time but I don’t think I will order it again. I’ve already found some of the other meals from AlpineAire that I like better.

Alpine Aire Black Bart Chili with Beef and Beans review

I prefer my chili without beans but I still decided to try this AlpineAire Black Bart Chili with Beef and Beans. The AlpineAire brand is one that I had never heard of before but I began seeing it on Amazon while other brands were either unavailable or priced prohibitively high.

There are lots of different varieties of chili and this one is a thicker hearty style with lots of flavor. It is NOT very spicy.

Making it was as easy as pulling out an oxygen absorbing packet, adding in boiling hot water, stirring it up, and then waiting. You can see the beans and other seasonings included in the dry mix.

The end result was pretty good for a long shelf like product, but obviously not as good as something made fresh at home. Hot sauce helped me add the right amount of heat for my liking. There are tasty bits of onion and meat along with the beans and other flavors.

Mountain House Raspberry Crumble review

If you asked me I’d tell you that I’m not particularly fond of desserts and would usually opt for a second serving of protein instead. I bought this Mountain House Raspberry Crumble so I’d have another freeze dried food item to add to my list of reviews.

One day when I wasn’t really craving any of the meals I had in my pantry I decided to make this and eat it alone as a meal.

Preparation was a little different than most freeze dried meals in that there was multiple packets of stuff to be added and mixed or sprinkled at various times during the process.

The end result was quite tasty and sweet. I liked it but there are lots of small seeds that got stuck in my teeth and annoyed me for a couple of hours afterwards until I got them all removed.

I’d recommend it for folks who want some sort of desert to pair with a meal while camping, hiking, or remaining in social isolation.

Peak Refuel Homestyle Chicken and Rice revisited

My original review suggested I’d try adding a little more water to the pouch the next time I made this to address a texture that I found odd.

Instead of using 1 cup of boiling water, I used 1 and 1/4 cups of boiling water today. The texture of the meal was improved as I had suspected.

The taste of the meal, which is dominated by mushrooms, was not changed. It’s still good although it’s not among my personal favorites and I don’t think I will be buying this specific Peak Refuel meal again.
