This week Papa Johns Pizza brings back their pan pizza. They say it is better than the pan pizza they used to sell. I decided to try it out and was pleased with it, although I must admit that I prefer thin crust pizzas.
I made my order via the Papa John’s website and then drove to a store near me to pick it up about 25 minutes later. They were busy because it was lunch time.
I took it home and once there began to enjoy a couple of slices for my lunch. I noticed that the toppings, cheese, and sauce pretty much tasted the same as what I remembered Papa John’s Pizza tasting like. I have my favorites which are typically Mom and Pop kind of local pizza places, but I’m not a pizza snob and will often order and eat pizza from a national chain. I try to limit myself to one pizza a week for dietary reasons.
I ordered this Papa John’s Better Pan Pizza with pepperoni, beef, onions, and their 3 cheese blend. The pan crust was crispy at the outer edges but still soft elsewhere like it should be. It was not as saturated with oil as a Pizza Hut Pan crust typically is. I wouldn’t say it was among the thickest pan pizzas I have ever had, but for me this isn’t a problem. If you like Papa John’s Pizza and pan crusts, I think you are going to like this better than before pan pizza.
