Stouffer’s Urban Bistro Frozen Entrees reviewed

I recently saw some Stouffer’s frozen food in my grocer’s freezer section that was not in the normal colors but instead used the color blue on their packaging and were entrees for one that I hadn’t tried previously. Of course I grabbed one of each variety available and placed them in my cart.

Once home I went to the Stouffer’s web site where they said their new Urban Bistro line was “Modern dishes made with unique ingredients that make you go WOW!” Eight different selections were listed but I’ve only tried the 3 that my local retailer had in stock. Here they are in the order I like them, least to most.

Stouffer’s Urban Bistro – Cheddar and Goat Cheese Mac

The Cheddar and Goat Cheese Mac was good. I enjoyed it and thought it was pretty good. The smaller size of this entree probably means you will want to eat something else with it if you are hungry.

Stouffer’s Urban Bistro – Beer Glazed Meatballs

Stouffer’s Urban Bistro Beer Glazed Meatballs was even tastier and at least to my palate had a more complex mix of flavors. I liked the small little onions that are used and thought that I could have easily eaten two of these as a large meal.

Stouffer’s Urban Bistro – Aged Asiago Lasagna

My favorite of the three Stouffer’s Urban Bistro frozen entrees that I tried was the Aged Asiago Lasagna. It was really delicious and the portion size was just right for lunch. I’m going to look for the other Urban Bistro selections to try and review but this one is on my”buy again list”.

A review of some frozen lasagnas

Here are some of the frozen lasagnas that I have tried and my thoughts.

If you know someone who insists upon always making their lasagna from scratch, hug them after reading this blog post.

I don’t have time for that and like many folks buy frozen food instead. Here are some of the frozen lasagnas that I have tried and my thoughts.

Publix Lasagna with meat sauce
Publix Lasagna with meat sauce

Publix Lasagna with meat sauce was good and probably the lowest cost per serving of the ones reviewed here. I don’t remember how much I paid for it but I know I bought it because it was on sale. I’d buy it again on sale.

Devour Lasagna Alfredo
Devour Lasagna Alfredo

Devour’s Lasagna Alfredo with Bacon and Sausage tasted pretty good. I’m accustomed to lasagna with red meat sauce so this was a departure from my usual choice. I’m pretty sure I also bought this when there was a sale and mentally placed it on my buy again list after eating it.

I’m certain that I’ve had a couple more varieties of frozen lasagna that aren’t listed here, simply because I forgot to take some pictures of the boxes. My favorite brand of frozen lasagna is Stouffer’s.

Stouffer's Lasagna Bake with Meat Sauce
Stouffer’s Lasagna Bake with Meat Sauce

This Stouffer’s Lasagna bake with meat sauce is pretty good and similar in taste to their regular meat lasagna in a square container with cheese on top. I would say it’s my standard “frozen lasagna go to” when I’m shopping the frozen food aisle at the grocery store.

The top pick on my list of frozen lasagnas is also from Stouffer’s and it’s their Meat Lovers variety. Delicious!

Stouffer’s Grandma’s Chicken & Vegetable Rice Bake

When I was growing up, my mother frequently prepared casserole dishes for family meals.   Stouffer’s Grandma’s Chicken & Vegetable Rice Bake reminds me of those meals, and I suppose that’s why I think of it as an example of “comfort food”.

Preparation is pretty simple.  Heat it up and then eat it up is the 2 steps.  I add a little black pepper to mine for taste.  I find the chicken used to be pretty good and the meat to starch ratio isn’t too skimpy.

I recommend this product for anyone who might be tired of other foods and is looking for something more homemade style in a frozen food selection.

Stouffer’s Chicken in Barbeque Sauce

Stouffers Chicken in Barbeque Sauce

I eat more chicken than any other kind of meat.  The BBQ sauce that’s used on this Stouffer’s Chicken in Barbeque sauce meal is nice and tangy, and the side of cheddar bacon potatoes is pretty good.

When the local grocery store offers these on sale as a buy 1 get 1 free, or some other deal that put’s the pricing between $2-$2.50 I will usually buy a half dozen different Stouffer’s meals, and this is always going to be one of the ones that’s placed into my grocery basket.

They also sell the cheddar bacon potatoes as a stand alone product.
